Cheap Ghillie Suits - Buyer Beware

I felt the need to make a post about this because Christmas is coming upon us and I’d hate to see any of our customers get a raw deal. As a seller of ghillie suits and only ghillie suits, I regularly check the competition to see how we compare.

If you came hear from doing a search on Google, you probably browsed through a few ghillie suit stores that sell only ghillie suits. You’ve probably seen prices that were all comparable to each other. If that’s the case, then you’re doing ok. However, if you’ve been a store where the ghillie suits prices are half the price of the ghillie suit only stores, a caution bell should go off in your head.

If 3 stores are selling the a ghillie suit for between $130-$150, how can 1 store sell it for $65? Possible answers are:

  1. The store is not making money on each sale
  2. It’s not a real store and will just steal your money or credit card information
  3. It will charge unreasonable shipping and handling costs to recoup the low pricing
  4. It will ship you an inferior product

Would you risk your money at that type of store?

Below is an ad that I saw for a ghillie suit last week. It was easy for me to spot this obvious false ad because I see these suits everyday.

What is wrong with this ad?

1. The photo is showing the Lightweight Jackal Ghillie Suit. The title says “Ghillie Suit made with Heavy Duty Polyester Netting.” The Jackal Ghillie is not made with any type of netting.

2. One size fits all. This is normally ok for a poncho or a one piece pullover, but with a jacket and pants suit as shown, you cannot make a one size fits all.

3. It says its made with netting and includes extra polyester camouflage leaves. The only commercially available ghillie suit on the market made with leaves is the Chameleon Ghillie Suit which is clearly not the same suit as shown in the ad picture.

4. It comes with fire retardent as burlap is highly flammable. Both the Jackal and Chameleon suit are made of synthetic materials. Neither are made with burlap.

So if you ordered this suit, what ghillie suit would you get? Honestly, I would have no idea. You could either get a Jackal Ghillie Suit, a Chameleon 1pc Ghillie Suit or maybe a Ghillie Flage Suit. However, if I had to place a bet on it, I would bet that you would get none of the above and you would get a poor quality knock off ghillie suit if they ship you anything at all.

What would I recommend?

Well obviously, I would love for everyone to purchase from Ghillie Suit Clothing. But I did not write this article just to benefit my store. I would tell a prospective ghillie suit purchaser to buy a ghillie suit from a store that specializes in ghillie suits only. A store that sells only ghillie suits will provide you better expertise and be able to answer your questions.

  • Do not purchase from unknown mega-mart stores that seem to sell everything under the sun. They don’t know what product they are selling.
  • Do not purchase from stores where the prices are too good to be true. You may never receive any product at all.
  • Do not purchase from stores which have conflicting descriptions or photos, chances are they have never even seen the suit they are selling.
