Ghillie Suits in Paintball
So you want to buy a Ghillie Suit for Paintball.
Playing paintball in a ghillie suit can be very fun. If you get the correct ghillie suit, you’ll have a huge advantage against the weekend paintball players in just jeans and shirts or even standard BDUs. Since paintball is a recreation activity and you will be wearing suit in relatively short time periods you may not need a top quality Ghillie suit. However, getting a high quality suit will always be well worth the price.
Most paintball fields have a variety of terrain. They will probably have a forest field, a woodsy field and an open field amongst their city, fort and other fields. If you can find pictures of the fields that you’ll be playing in then you can best match your ghillie suit to the terrain. If you can’t find any pictures of the field, just give them a call and ask them to describe the types of fields that they have.
I’d recommend the two piece suit because sometimes near the end of the day you may just want to wear the ghillie jacket with regular BDU pants. Also, if you do like to move around lot and the field is a dense woods, you may be able to sprint with just a ghillie jacket and then crouch behind a bush or tree.
A ghillie poncho also works well as it frees your legs for moving quickly and you can crouch to cover yourself. A poncho is also great because you can share it with friends as you play. You can take turns being the sniper and split up the cost of a poncho or suit.
How to use a Ghillie Suit in paintball
Capture the Flag
Ghillie suits work best when you are not moving. You can’t expect to be at the forefront of the action with a ghillie suit on, plus its just tough to run with one on. It’s main advantage is defense or in the middle position. Remember, you’re opponents have seen you in your suit, they know that someone on the other side has a ghillie suit and will be on the look out for it. You have to get better cover than usual because they will fire into anything that looks like your suit.
In capture the flag scenarios your suit could be best used in flag defense. Lay down somewhere close to the flag where you can get off clear shots at any opponent who grabs the flag. I’ve found that you don’t want to be too far away because opponents going for the flag don’t creep, they just make a run to it and grab it. You need to be able to get multiple shots at them coming and going. There’s a good chance that the flag will be overrun by multiple opponents so you need to be hidden well enough so that you can get off shots a multiple opponents without being seen. You will be heard and your shots will be seen. However, they will know the exact location of where they came from. In the few seconds they take locating you may have time to pick off someone else.
Because you will be wearing a paintball mask, you need a head covering that’s large enough to go over it. If you don’t have one, a Ghillie Small Pack Cover maybe perfect for this.
I should mention that you will need to get a Ghillie Rifle kit for your gun. The paintball hopper is a huge giveaway. A better solution would be to use the Ghillie backpack cover to cover the area between the hopper and your mask. Lay in place and have a teammate cover you. Make sure your barrel is covered will only the tip barely showing. If the paintball field allows it, add a silencer to your paintball gun.
Team Ghillie
A team of one ghillie suit and one player can be a great force in paintball. If you’re on a field where the ghillie suit is so good that opponents will literally walk right by you, you can team up for the ulimate kill. What you should do is position the ghillie suit person somewhere along the path of the opponents. Your teammate will know exactly where you are. When an opponent gets close to the hidden ghillie teammate, your teammate should engage him openly with alot of noise. The teammate in the ghillie should be able to wait and get a great shot to takeout the opponent. The advantage of this tactic is that the ghillie teammate’s shot will not give away his position due to the opponent shooting at the other teammate. In addition, the other team will just think that your teammate shot the guy and will repeatedly venture into the same section.
The grassy field
On fields with a huge open grass area is great for a ghillie suit. On this type of field, you can actually crawl and creep forward to within a few feet of the opponents. This works alot because players will hardly stand upright in a grassy field. They will be crouched or crawling the whole time. Your suit provides you great camouflage even as you move. You just move and stop, move and stop. It’s imperative that your gun be well camouflaged or hidden under you suit as you will have opponents look directly over you.

Nice post, I’ll have to try the team ghillie one. Me and my friend use a talkabout with an earpiece. I just talk to him, he hides and doesnt talk back. He looks in pretty much one direction with limited field of vision. I just tell him where the other teams are. It works great.
