How to Make a Ghillie Suit: Details of the Knot
The video below will show you how to attach your thread onto ghillie suit netting. It’s a very simple knot actually. It’s not really even a knot since you only have to loop the thread through once and pull tight. The thread will not unravel. The video shows two methods on knot tying. Enjoy!

Hi ghillie suit blog team,
I’m making my own ghillie suit, but I don’t know what type of netting to use. My friends say to use fishing netting, but I don’t know how much I need for a full ghillie suit.
Could you give me some rough measurements, or some good netting materials?
Thanks alot,

Hi Beno,
You just need enough netting to cover parts of your suit. We sell a kit that comes with 5′ x 9′ netting which should be able to make a full suit. The small kit comes with a 4′ x 5′ net which can cover half of your body.

you could just fold the jute twine in half and make a loop at the end, then you stick it through the net and then stick the end of the twine through the loop. like a slip knot thing. then its removable if you are changing environments

Hi ghilliesuitblog writer,
Happy New year!
I have my sights locked on your well-priced ghillie suit kits.
The problem is that in my operating environment, temperatures hit 43 celsius in the day and hit 14 degrees at night, like a desert. Also, I HAVE to wear the ghillie on top of my base BDU’s. So if I make my ghillie as a jacket, I’d be wearing TWO layers of BDU, which is fine at night, but bad when hot.
In this case would you reckon it be better to make a “net-only” design, or sew the netting onto my second pair of BDU’s?
Finally,(hope you aren’t too bored)are the 5′ x 9′ nets designed for the suit to be comprised of simply netting worn directly on top of the body and camo (like your stalker poncho)?
Or are they designed for the netting to be sewn onto my BDU’s(like your sniper BDU jacket)?
Thanks very much for the great blog,
BEno
p.s; Is 5′ x 9′ netting enough for a person of 2 metres height? Probably seems obvious to you, sorry.

I need a tan/desert camo colored ghillie suit (short dead grass) and need to know whether I should use burlap strips or thread like in the knot video. And also, should I use black or tan netting? One last thing where can I get netting made out of thread ? Thanx

i made my own high desert grass ghillie and used 1″ military netting which is much sturdier that plastic netting, and used jute twine and sporatic burlap intertwined for the ghillie material. Although the jute twine does have a very earthy smell it works quite well and will look great when vegged up with desert grass and vegetation. Use a scent eliminator OR scotch guard the suit which will eliminate some odors and will help weatherproof your material too.

New-B, I was wondering about using the thermo type screening that Walmat sells in their garden Dept. It comes in 6′ ft.wide rolls in tan and dark green I spray painted each witn verious colors to make a camo effect and used then outdoor coverings.
